My client, a global technology company, is hiring a Back-End Software Engineer to join an established engineering team based in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity to work on highly scalable, enterprise-grade backend systems that support mission-critical applications used by customers worldwide. The Role

Working as part of an experienced backend engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining scalable Java services while helping to improve system reliability, automation and deployment pipelines. You will contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle, from solution design through to deployment and production support, ensuring applications remain highly available, secure and maintainable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable Java backend services
  • Build integrations with databases and distributed data platforms
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Support cloud-based infrastructure and production environments
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering teams
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews and technical planning
  • Promote engineering best practices across development, testing and monitoring
  • Contribute to ongoing platform modernisation and backend optimisation initiatives

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent commercial experience)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience developing Java backend applications
  • Experience delivering software into production environments
  • Strong understanding of scalable server-side application development
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Ability to take ownership of features from design through to deployment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion for learning new technologies and development practices

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Knowledge of Helm or similar deployment tools
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and infrastructure automation
