VANRATH are excited to be working closely to support with the role of a Fitter/Mechanic (Public Sector) for a well-established client within the local authority. This is initially a 6 month assignment with the possibility of extension.

The post holder will be required to carry out scheduled maintenance operations on all fleet vehicles, plant and equipment. This will include light vans and lorries, specialist vehicles such as road sweepers, heavy goods and complex vehicles including refuse lorries and rear end loaders.

Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintenance of light and heavy goods vehicles, plant and machinery including fault diagnosis.
  • Attend off-site breakdowns and effect necessary repairs to render vehicle roadworthy or recover to Depot.
  • Carry out new vehicle Pre-Delivery Inspections and Routine Vehicle Safety Inspections.
  • Commission new plant and equipment and maintain fleet records.
  • Carry out planned maintenance works on all fleet vehicles in accordance with the annual programme.
  • Plan required maintenance operations and parts requirements to ensure efficient and effective servicing to minimise downtime for all fleet vehicles.
  • Identify, research, compile, deliver and evaluate relevant training courses to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council employees, Agency and Casual staff, on vehicle, plant and equipment related issues to Freight Transport Association and 'O' License requirements.
  • Lead, supervise and implement projects commensurate with the post as and when required, taking responsibility for results, completion dates etc.
  • Road test vehicles and make recommendations to supervision on safety/roadworthiness of vehicles.
  • Responsible for the security of fleet items and mobile plant while in the Garage premises and for the authorised movements of such items in and out of the Workshop.
Ideal CandidateEssential Criteria
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle/HGV Studies or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years' post-apprenticeship experience in motor vehicle maintenance.
  • Full current Category B Driving Licence (valid in UK).
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostics systems.
  • Proficient in the application of Health and Safety Systems; reading and following Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Team leadership; creative; ability to work as part of a team; ability to use own initiative.
Desirable Criteria
  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle/HGV Studies or equivalent.
  • Experience of maintaining hydraulic equipment and electrical systems.
  • Experience of HGV maintenance.
  • Full current Category C&E Driving Licence.
Remuneration

Circa £32,669 plus pension, holiday pay and discount benefits.
