Vanrath are delighted to be working with a large public sector client located in Ballymena, on the recruitment of a Tourism Advisor with Admin and Box Office duties on a temporary basis.

Provide a customer focused service to visitors to the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) within The Braid, Ballymena commensurate with the standards expected of a first class visitor attraction. Successful candidates will undertake a wide range of duties associated with the Visitor Information Centre including general administrative duties, dealing with visitor enquiries and actively promoting local and regional tourism.

What you'll do:

  • Provide a first-class level of customer service, with the visitor in mind each and every time.
  • Meet and greet all visitors to the Visitor Information Centres.
  • Deal effectively and efficiently with visitor and local enquiries to the VIC in person, via email, social media and telephone.
  • Operate a range of VIC services including computerised accommodation booking service, retail outlet and ticketing for local events and facilities.
  • Record statistics on a range of topics for Council purposes, including income, ticketing, visitor enquiries, stock control and correspondence.
  • Provide assistance in planning itineraries, including attractions, transport, accommodation etc.
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties including taking bookings for The Braid theatre and arts centre, filing, banking, word processing, brochure sourcing, database maintenance, ordering of stock and stationery items and distribution of literature.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of events associated with the promotion of tourism.
  • Assist with the preparation and content of tourism publications.
  • Prepare the daily summary of income by category and reconcile to cash takings.
  • Operate a stock control system for retail items.
  • Assist with the pricing, replenishing of stock and merchandising within the retail area of the VIC.
  • Act as a key holder for the VIC, and to adhere to opening and closing procedures.
  • Liaise with other Council Departments, statutory bodies, industry members and appropriate bodies such as Tourism Northern Ireland on issues specific to the operation of the VIC.

About you:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C, including English and Maths.
  • Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples a minimum of one year's working experience to include:
    • Dealing with the general public in a tourism environment;
    • Cash handling and recording in a commercial environment;
    • General administration experience;
    • Effective use of computerised information management systems and Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • OR, for candidates who do not meet the qualification requirements as outlined above:
  • Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples of a minimum of three years' working experience, to include:
    • Dealing with the general public in a tourism environment;
    • Cash handling and recording in a commercial environment;
    • General administration experience;
    • Effective use of computerised information management systems and Microsoft Office Applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
