  • Belfast-based telecommunications and technology organisation , is hiring an

API Engineer to join their existing technology team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Backend/API Developer to work across a varied technology environment, developing integrations and APIs that support hosted telephony, connectivity, mobile, Io T and CRM/business systems.

You will be part of a growing technology team delivering innovative communications and connectivity solutions to businesses across the UK and Ireland. My client operates across hosted/Vo IP telephony, connectivity, mobile, Io T and business-system integrations , providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to work on a diverse range of technology and integration projects.

As an

API Engineer , you will design, develop and maintain robust APIs and backend services that enable Clarity's internal platforms, customer systems and third-party applications to communicate effectively.

You will work closely with technical teams and wider business stakeholders to understand integration requirements, design scalable solutions and deliver reliable data exchange between internal systems and external services.

You will be involved across the full development lifecycle, including

API design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring and ongoing support .

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the wider technology estate, improving automation, system interoperability and operational efficiency.

  • The Person
  • Experience developing

RESTful APIs and backend applications in a commercial environment.

  • Strong understanding of

REST, HTTP, JSON and API design principles .

  • Experience with one or more backend development languages such as

C#, Java, Python, Node. js or PHP .

  • Experience developing and integrating third-party APIs and business systems .
  • Strong knowledge of

SQL and relational databases .

  • Experience with

Git and modern software development practices.

  • Understanding of

CI/CD and automated deployment processes .

  • Experience writing automated tests and supporting production applications.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of

API authentication and security , ideally including OAuth2 and/or JWT.

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure .
  • Understanding of microservices and distributed systems .
  • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes would be advantageous.
  • Experience with

API gateways or integration platforms would be beneficial.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider technical and business teams.
  • Experience working within

Agile/Scrum development environments.

Desirable

  • Experience within telecommunications, Vo IP, Saa S or technology platforms .
  • Experience working with

CRM or ERP integrations .

  • Exposure to telecoms APIs, SIP, Vo IP or communications platforms .
  • Experience with

Io T platforms or connected devices .

  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies .
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools .
  • Knowledge of API management, versioning and documentation.
  • Experience working with third-party technology providers.
