VANRATH is working with a long-established Northern Ireland freight forwarding and logistics business on the appointment of a Senior Freight Operations Coordinator for their Antrim operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freight professional to step into a senior operational role, taking ownership of complex and time-critical shipments while acting as a key point of support for both customers and the wider operations team.

The business operates across air, ocean and road freight, alongside customs brokerage and warehousing, supporting customers across pharmaceutical, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace and renewable sectors.

About you

  • Solid experience within freight forwarding operations, ideally across more than one mode
  • Working knowledge of customs procedures and documentation, particularly post-Brexit Northern Ireland requirements
  • Confident dealing with airlines, shipping lines, hauliers and overseas agents
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage customer relationships alongside the operational requirements of each shipment
  • Well organised, accurate and able to remain calm when priorities change at short notice
  • Comfortable using freight forwarding systems and standard Microsoft packages
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues would be an advantage
  • Relevant qualification in international trade, logistics or supply chain is desirable

What you'll do

  • Manage end-to-end freight shipments across air, ocean and road, including complex and time-critical movements
  • Act as the senior point of contact for key customers, providing updates throughout the shipment lifecycle
  • Prepare and check customs documentation, ensuring entries are accurate and compliant
  • Liaise with airlines, shipping lines, hauliers, agents and overseas partners to book and track consignments
  • Prepare quotes and cost jobs, monitoring margins and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Resolve delays, exceptions and queries quickly, escalating issues where required
  • Support and mentor junior members of the operations team
  • Maintain accurate records on the operating system and produce reports as required
  • Work in line with internal quality and compliance standards, including AEO requirements
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement across the operations function
