- Position
Overview: We are looking for a Chargehand to support a well‑established local authority client in maintaining Golf Courses, Cemeteries, Parks, Playing Fields, Landscaped areas and Open Spaces in accordance with Council Guidelines and standards.
This initial 6‑month assignment may extend.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the maintenance of golf courses, cemeteries, parks, playing fields, landscaped areas and open spaces.
Co‑coordinate horticultural operations such as planting trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs, soil cultivation, site renovation, preparation and construction including fertilising, seeding, turfing and general labouring (sweeping, hoeing, raking, edging, weeding, hedge‑cutting and trimming).
Prune trees, shrubs and perennials as directed.
- Safely and effectively use and maintain equipment such as self‑propelled walk‑behind and ride‑on grass cutting machinery and associated tools in line with Council Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Supervise up to six other employees in horticultural practices, including safe use of chemical sprays and associated equipment.
- Drive large agricultural tractors and articulated vehicles such as vans and trailers as required.
- Complete accurate records in line with Council Policies and Procedures and management systems, e. g., vehicle defect sheets, inventory allocations, chemical logs and driver declarations.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with current Health and Safety legislation and Council Policies and Procedures, relating to PPE, Manual Handling, Lone Working, etc.
- Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 3 years of employment experience in horticulture and grounds maintenance, with experience in at least one of the following areas: Sports Pitch Maintenance, Cemetery Maintenance, Golf Course Maintenance or Horticultural Maintenance (Floral).
- Good understanding of grounds maintenance.
- Awareness of Health & Safety issues.
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out wide range of manual tasks across any company‑controlled site.
- Full current UK driving licence (not provisional) and access to a car or other means of transport to perform duties.
- Basic Access NI clearance.
- Chemical handling and application certificates PA1 and PA6A.
- NPTC Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent.
- Remuneration
Circa £29,456 per annum, plus pension and holiday pay.
