Join a rewarding HR Advisor role within a public sector organisation supporting the Business Support function of Corporate & Support Services. You’ll deliver day-to-day operational HR and Employee Relations support, providing high-level guidance to line managers and helping drive forward the HR & OD Business Plan.

Salary / Benefits

  • Working pattern: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Flexibility: May be required to work outside normal office hours as required
  • Location: Location to be confirmed on appointment; flexibility to be based across the Borough will be required

You’ll be part of an HR team, working alongside senior and operational stakeholders to support business delivery. This role partners closely with line managers and wider teams, including Trade Unions, to ensure consistent people management and legally compliant HR practice.

About you

To be successful, you’ll bring:

  • A degree (any discipline) and 2 years’ experience in HR/Employee Relations (or 4 years’ experience if you do not have a degree)
  • Current professional membership of CIPD (Associate or Chartered Member)
  • Proven experience in advising managers on HR matters with Employee Relations implications
  • Experience in managing recruitment and selection vacancies
  • Track record working effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Line Managers and Trade Unions
  • Strong ability to communicate with impact, solve problems, and support change

Nice to have skills

  • Experience operating in a political or complex stakeholder environment
  • Experience contributing to HR projects and initiatives
  • Experience supporting employment litigation and working closely with Employment Solicitors

Preferred education and experience

  • CIPD membership: Full, current membership required (Associate or Chartered)
  • If you do not hold Chartered Status, you must attain it within two years of appointment
  • Experience level: 2 years with a degree, or 4 years without

  • Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle, or access to transport that enables you to carry out the duties
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality, discretion, and GDPR compliance
  • Willingness to work flexibly according to business needs

What you’ll do

  • Manage a portfolio of HR cases including sickness, discipline, grievance, dignity & respect at work, performance/capability (including dismissals), appeals and Employment Tribunals—ensuring consistent application of HR policy and employment law
  • Provide high-level advice and guidance to senior and line managers across a range of HR and employee relations matters
  • Promote best practice by coaching and developing line managers to strengthen people management capability
  • Represent HR on employee relations matters such as discipline, grievances, capability, complaints investigations and termination of contract
  • Support recruitment and selection activity, chair panels as required, and ensure timely, equality-led administration
