The Role
As a qualified Litigation Lawyer, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-volume customer litigation, making sure cases are run to a high standard and in line with the Legal Services Act, Consumer Duty, FCA/SRA rules and guidance, the Civil Procedure Rules and internal policies. You will allocate and supervise work across the team, manage key supplier relationships, provide clear reporting against service levels, and act as an escalation point for urgent or sensitive issues, while supporting the Head of Litigation on more complex and strategic matters.
You and your Team
You will be assisted in the conduct of the litigation by a team of six Customer Litigation Specialists and create a supportive, team-based culture where people are coached, developed and empowered to deliver good customer outcomes. Working closely with the Head of Litigation and the Litigation and Complex Disputes Lead, you will also partner with colleagues across Group Legal, Operations, Compliance and Risk, as well as external firms and advocacy providers, to improve ways of working and drive efficiency.
As a Litigation Lawyer, you will:
- Lead with confidence – managing, coaching, and developing a team of six paralegals to deliver high-quality, compliant litigation outcomes.
- Ensure compliance excellence – providing robust legal oversight in line with the Legal Services Act, Consumer Duty, FCA/SRA regulations and guidance, the CPR, and VBG policies.
- Own delivery – allocating and supervising work and monitoring productivity.
- Act as a trusted escalation point – advising on complex customer calls and correspondence with professionalism and empathy.
- Drive continuous improvement – reviewing processes and procedures to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and deliver better customer outcomes.
- Represent the team externally – building and maintaining strong relationships with third-party suppliers and external litigation partners.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll thrive in this role if you bring strong litigation expertise combined with a genuine passion for people leadership and customer outcomes. You’ll stand out if you:
- A qualified lawyer, ideally with at least 3 years’ PQE in financial litigation.
- Enjoy leading and developing teams, with proven experience managing paralegals or similar case-handling professionals.
- Have a solid working knowledge of the CCA, CPR, and FCA regulations (CONC/DISP) and can apply them confidently in a fast-paced environment.
- Are decisive, resilient, and organised, comfortable managing high-volume workloads while maintaining accuracy and fairness.
- Communicate with clarity and impact—able to build rapport with customers, colleagues, regulators, and external providers alike.
- Are motivated by improving ways of working, embedding best practice, and creating a positive, supportive team culture aligned to Vanquis values.
Desirable:
- Experience within the Motor Finance industry would be highly beneficial.
