The Role

In this role, you’ll help make sure customer litigation is managed fairly, consistently and in line with regulatory expectations.

You’ll balance legal oversight with day-to-day team support, helping the team deliver good customer outcomes while maintaining quality, productivity and compliance standards.

Reporting to: Head of Litigation

You’ll join our Litigation team, helping to supervise a team of Customer Litigation Specialists who manage high volume customer litigation, mainly Return of Goods Orders.

You’ll work closely with the Litigation and Complex Disputes Lead, supporting the Head of Litigation on complex and strategic contentious matters across Vanquis.

As a Junior Litigation Lawyer, you will

  • Provide legal oversight for a team handling high volume customer litigation, making sure activity is managed in line with Consumer Duty principles, FCA regulations, the Civil Procedure Rules and Vanquis policies.
  • Act as an escalation point for referred customer calls, correspondence and more complex or challenging litigation cases.
  • Support reporting on team activity, productivity, service levels, quality and compliance measures.
  • Build effective relationships with third‑party suppliers, including court agency advocacy services and external litigation partner firms.
  • Work with Resource Planning to anticipate demand peaks and make sure resources are managed effectively.
  • Help coach, mentor and develop the team, creating a supportive culture where colleagues can contribute to business goals and good customer outcomes.
  • What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a qualified lawyer with litigation experience, or someone with a clear interest in building expertise in this area.

Motor finance litigation experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential.

You’ll bring a good understanding of the Consumer Credit Act, Civil Procedure Rules and FCA regulations, including CONC and DISP, and you’ll be confident using sound judgement to reach fair customer outcomes.

  • Experience of managing or supporting a litigation caseload, ideally within a regulated financial services environment.
  • A practical, customer-focused approach, with the ability to gather facts, ask the right questions and evaluate information fairly.
  • Confidence making decisions and managing high volume, repetitive work accurately and consistently.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work with customers, internal teams, compliance, risk and external suppliers.
  • A proactive mindset, with the motivation to improve processes, reduce risk and find better ways of working.
  • An inclusive and supportive leadership style, with the ability to supervise day-to-day activity, delegate work and help colleagues develop.
