Vanguard Capital Management’s (VCM) Investment Stewardship program has a clear mandate: to promote long-term shareholder returns on behalf of VCM’s passively managed equity funds and their investors. We carry out this mandate by promoting governance practices that are associated with long-term shareholder returns at the companies in which the funds invest.
We do this by:
- Engaging with portfolio company directors and executives to learn about companies’ corporate governance practices and to share our perspectives on corporate governance practices associated with long-term shareholder returns.
- Voting proxies at portfolio company shareholder meetings based on each fund’s proxy voting policies and guidelines.
- Promoting corporate governance practices associated with long-term investment returns through our published materials and participation in industry events and initiatives.
Details Vanguard Capital Management (VCM) is seeking an analyst to join our Investment Stewardship team. This role supports long‑term investor value by participating in company research and proxy voting and contributing to engagement with portfolio companies on corporate governance matters. As an Analyst, you will analyze governance risks, develop proxy voting recommendations in line with VCM funds’ guidelines, and support engagement with company boards and executives. You will work closely with internal partners and contribute to initiatives to improve governance outcomes and reduce risk across our funds.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to research and proxy voting analysis for portfolio companies.
- Develop recommendations aligned with VCM’s proxy voting guidelines.
- Support portfolio company engagement on governance topics by preparing research and documenting notes from these meetings.
- Contribute to research projects on corporate governance topics and projects to improve outcomes, efficiency and risk management.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
What We’re Looking For
- Undergraduate degree.
- Proven experience in business or investments.
- Strong interest in corporate governance, stewardship and risk oversight.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin or another major business language is a plus.
