Senior Mobile Android Developer - Vanguard in Manchester

Vanguard is heavily investing and committing to build a world-class mobile experience for our clients and we are looking to hire top talent to build our Android native apps. Be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Vanguard Personal Investor app. Your primary focus will be development of Android applications and their integration with third party back-end services. You will be working alongside a team of engineers working on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and the creation of quality products is essential.

In this role you will:

• Help to create reliable applications for the Android platform that makes investing simple and straightforward for customers.
• You will be involved in the whole life cycle from suggesting new features to releasing the application.
• Write programs, develop code, test artifacts, and produce reports.
• Employ software development techniques to ensure tests are implemented in a way that support automation.
• Provide senior level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases.
• Integrate third party products & participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues.
• Participate in systems analysis activities.
• Understand client business functions and technology needs.
• Understand Vanguard's tools, technologies, and applications/databases, including those that interface with business area and systems.
• Learn and align with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about providing outstanding service for our clients, understand how to translate business requirements into world class software products. You will also need to have:

• Proven experience of building Android applications using Kotlin and the latest Android SDKs, with hands-on expertise in MVVM architecture and modern dependency injection frameworks (e.g., Hilt).
• Experience with Jetpack Compose.
• Practical experience with cloud-based microservice architectures (preferably Spring Boot/Kotlin on AWS), and solid collaboration skills using Git, Atlassian suite, and agile tools like JIRA.
• Experience with RESTful API integrations (OkHttp, Retrofit) and a strong testing mindset are essential.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into high-quality mobile products in fast-paced, team-oriented environments is a must.
