Working within the Western Campus Central Support Team, the Principal Support Engineer will be responsible for investigating and resolving complex technical faults in Low Level control equipment, including data analysis, system improvement, and optimization within the baggage handling system. The role requires a good understanding of both high-level and electro-mechanical equipment and their interfaces with low-level systems. The engineer will also support the Western campus Pilz replacement project.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead complex and critical low-level PLC control incidents.
  • Interface directly with duty engineers and high-level teams during P1/P2 events.
  • Provide specialist support for OEM PLCs, Safety PLCs, etc.
  • Support and maintain documentation and software repositories (VersionDog/Mass).
  • Fault find communication issues between HLC and LLC PLC components.
  • Monitor and oversee 2nd/3rd line support for integrated technologies.
  • Be recognized as a system expert in specialist technologies and system behaviour by customers.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with customers and Heathrow suppliers.
  • Demonstrate expertise in controls OEM equipment to customers.
  • Maintain customer focus, aligning with their goals and targets where possible.
  • Drive incident resolution and work order fulfillment within SLAs, leading Low Level Controls engineers.
  • Provide accurate and detailed handovers during incidents, work orders, or investigations.

Role Qualifications and Skills

  • Electrical/controls engineering qualifications to HNC or equivalent.
  • Experience with software version control.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, especially Siemens and Pilz.
  • Knowledge of fieldbus and drive technologies.
  • Problem-solving experience in previous roles.
  • Experience with airport or material handling systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Heathrow baggage systems is a plus.
