The UK engineering team works as an integrated part of the worldwide Vanderlande Engineering team, consisting of over 1,000 engineers from all automated handling disciplines. An engineer joining the UK team has the opportunity and potential to contribute to a wide and diverse range of projects. We are looking for an engineer with the passion and willingness to develop designs for projects, the ability to follow challenging standards, and the drive to add value to our customers both domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Junior Controls Engineer supports the design and development of control system solutions based on project and user requirements.
- This role involves helping to convert functional needs into clear and workable system designs and assisting in preparing technical and design documentation.
- The engineer supports basic software implementation, testing, commissioning, and validation activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
- The position includes helping to troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during testing and site activities.
- All work is carried out in line with project standards, quality guidelines, and safety procedures.
- The role also involves collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to support delivery across the full project lifecycle, from design to final handover.
- Understanding of design documentation and interpret functional specifications.
- Support commissioning activities and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with project standards, quality processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide progress updates.
- Execute pre-commissioning (I/O, MRT, cabinet functionality etc.)
- Execute commissioning (functionality, capacity, requirements)
- Jointly execute LLC integration (area to area, 3PS equipment, SCADA)
- Execute volume testing together with project team (flows, capacity, redundancy)
- Create documentation and a test and validation plan (FAT, SAT) based on MTP, for own work field and tune with other disciplines
- Create module and interface tests based on validation strategy
- Execute tests in house and/or on site
- Create/support integration tests
Role Qualification and Skills
- Learn PLC programming using tools like Siemens TIA Portal and Simatic Manager
- Understand and support SCADA systems such as WinCC, WinCC OA, and Web Factory
- Learn how to develop and test safety systems using platforms like S7-1500F, PILZ PSS3000, and conventional safety circuits
- Assist in performing health and safety risk analysis at component and system levels
- Gain basic understanding of material handling systems and related equipment
- Learn about customer processes in different industry sectors
- Support work related to electrical and mechanical (EM) components, control cabinets, and field wiring
- Learn testing strategies and methods, including use of tools like Quality Centre, UFT/QTP, Jenkins, and emulation tools
- Assist in system testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities
- Develop understanding of business process automation (HLC) concepts
- Follow safety standards, quality procedures, and project guidelines
- Work under guidance of senior engineers and contribute to team tasks
- Experience in design, software implementation, validation, or commissioning
- Strong understanding of engineering methodologies and standard tools
