Introduction to role
The Solution Engineering department is responsible for developing a winning commercial proposal, in close cooperation with the Sales Management department during the sales phase, and successfully implementing the "as sold" total solution with the Project Execution department. The department consists of a wide range of expertise to enable the design and sale of a total solution towards our customers and to execute these designs when awarded. Key to the Solution Engineering department is the responsibility to sell and execute a total solution, with the support of critical interfaces to other departments within the UK office and internationally.
Due to an increase in the number of active projects at London Heathrow Airport, the UK Solutions Engineering Team are looking to hire an Engineering Project Manager to take responsibility for the design, delivery and service takeover of a portfolio of engineering projects as a part of our Baggage Strategic Partnership with London Heathrow Airport.
Role Responsibilities
As an Engineering Project Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of project engineers. With this team, you will work towards the successful completion of one or more projects in an international environment. You will steer the progress of your project and closely guard costs and quality, taking action where necessary. You will have a sharp technical conscience and be capable of overviewing the entire project, while at the same time being able to zoom in on details if needed. You will steer subcontractors and be able to discuss all technical project issues with customers and reach agreement.
In addition, the people in your project team will have your special attention. You will be responsible for the development of individual employees and the specific skills of your group. You will support, coach, facilitate and make adjustments when necessary.
You will report to the Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering and have frequent contact with the Project Managers and Integration Managers of the projects you work on.
Your responsibilities and activities will include:
- Leading one or more large and/or complex projects.
- Defining the engineering project plan.
- Managing the project's engineering budget, planning and risks & opportunities, and reporting periodically on the status of these topics in the Project Status Report.
- Managing timely delivery of all engineering deliverables, including specifications, materials, documentation, training, and service takeover.
- Working closely together with Project Manager, Integration Manager and lead engineers, and coordinating the activities of the project team consisting of all engineering disciplines.
- Performing the health and safety analysis and being responsible for the safety coordination during the engineering phase.
- Being line manager for all members of the multidisciplinary team of project engineers.
- Planning the resources in the team, and signalling resource/competence needs to ensure a balanced multidisciplinary team of project engineers.
- Focusing on continuous development of the individual members of the team and the team as a whole.
Role Qualification and Skills
- A technical degree at least at bachelor level.
- A member of a professional body such as the IET and Chartered Engineer.
- Breadth of knowledge from a systems design and build perspective, with a depth of technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical or control systems perspective.
- Significant experience as a project leader, familiar with scope, planning, budget and risk & opportunity management.
- Ability to speak both the customer's language and that of the engineers in your team.
- Pragmatic attitude and able to balance quality, time, cost and technology.
- Driven, proactive and takes initiative.
- Delivery focused with a determination to achieve our commitments.
- Ability to coach and support employees to get the best out of themselves.
