Introduction to role
You will be responsible for the daily management of the maintenance and operational shift team, reporting to you as instructed by the Duty Engineer. You will ensure that your shift team’s daily duties/activities are carried out in a safe and effective manner, minimising the impact to the customer’s operations. As this position will be both shift and “hands on”, you will also be working within your assigned shift pattern on electrical, instrument, mechanical and control systems which involve the installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of all site Vanderlande equipment. You will take the lead on all technical recoveries/escalations when required providing technical updates to your management Team. Deputize when/if required covering Duty Engineer Role.
Role Responsibilities
- Ensure all operations and maintenance activities are executed properly and in time
- Adherence to quality and delivery of activities
- Reporting performance on daily basis
- Available to the engineers to offer advice and support
- Communicate observations to relevant stakeholders
- Take lead role in training and familiarization of less experienced Service Technicians
- Take ownership to ensure that area is clean and hazard free
- Manage and co-ordinate the management of third party interests when undertaking specialist operations, maintenance or repair activities on their shift
- Responsible for the contractors permit to work and sign offs
- Isolating activities to ensure that work can be carried out safely for all parties (maintenance engineers and third parties)
- Distribute planned activities amongst the team
- Check activity performance of engineers and third parties ongoing
- Support during complex operation and maintenance activities
- Check safe working conditions and procedures
- Train new / inexperienced employees including Engineering Support Operatives
- Acts independently in several technical tasks with small mutual consistency
- Identifies service issues that need extra attention
- Solves problems which disturb the daily operation
Role Qualification and Skills
As a Deputy Shift Leader, you would be willing to assist and learn from a multi-disciplined team in a fast moving environment. We expect the following of you:
- You have a proactive approach to fault finding and act proficient in aspects of the operation and Customer-orientation/Service provision.
- Be computer literate and have ability to read and interpret drawings
- Safety leadership
- Relevant vocational and / or technical qualifications.
- A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills
- Willing to work shifts including nights
- Willing to work overtime when this is required
