About Us: Seccl is the Octopus-owned embedded investment platform that is on a mission to help more people invest and invest well. We are B-Corp certified with an amazing product-market fit, strong early traction and the potential to transform an outdated industry. We are growing fast and will scale even faster over the next few years. We are proud to be part of Octopus, the £multi billion group that is on a mission to breathe new life into broken industries through companies like Octopus Energy, Octopus Investments and Octopus Money.

The role: We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to shape and evolve the platform that underpins our investment products. You will be someone who loves understanding engineering problems and enabling teams to self-serve their needs. You view the cloud platform as a product, and engineering as your customer. The role is within our Cloud Resilience team, a critical squad within our engineering organisation responsible for empowering squads to build and run their own services. We are primarily in AWS, utilising Lambda, ECS, SQS, API Gateway among others. Our database engine is MongoDB and our observability platform is Datadog. Our application is written in TypeScript/NodeJS and our infrastructure is defined in Terraform.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, implement, and maintain scalable, secure infrastructure in AWS using Terraform.
  • Design cloud-native solutions using MongoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, and other AWS services with a strong focus on serverless.
  • Contribute to incident response efforts, production readiness, and reliability initiatives across engineering squads.
  • Enhance observability and platform insight through actionable alerting and data visibility using Datadog.
  • Continuously improve CI/CD processes with GitHub Actions, reducing friction in delivery pipelines.
  • Collaborate with software engineers (working in Node.js/TypeScript) to ensure secure, performant, and resilient applications.
  • Mentor engineers and champion DevOps culture and best practices across teams.

This role's for you if...

  • You are a pragmatic DevOps engineer with experience in regulated environments, balancing delivery with compliance and operational excellence.
  • You are confident working with JavaScript/TypeScript-based applications and collaborating closely with development teams.
  • You know what good looks like for databases like MongoDB and can diagnose, design, and optimise for scale and resilience.
  • You care deeply about observability; you do not just monitor systems, you build alerts that engineers can act on.
  • You are fluent in AWS best practices, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and CI/CD tooling like GitHub Actions.
  • You have had exposure to architectural decisions and willingness to own platform-level outcomes.

This role isn’t for you if...

  • You rely on a lot of top-down direction. Here you will have a lot of freedom and ownership of your role, and you will be expected to shape your own progression.
  • You are not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability are what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet.
  • You struggle to follow through on ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen.
  • You do not like change. You will get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growth and are willing to embrace uncertainty.

What’s in it for you:

  • A salary between £75,000 and £95,000 depending on experience + reviewed annually.
  • 27 days holiday + bank holidays (some can be flexible) + day off on your birthday + three days per year for Dependant leave (full-time).
  • Two volunteering days per year.
  • Option to work abroad for up to six weeks a year.
  • Secclbrate – our recognition programme with flexible rewards including extra pay, additional holiday and increased learning budget.
  • Length of service award: one month paid sabbatical at eight years.
  • 6% employer pension contribution, and life assurance.
  • Private medical insurance with AXA Health.
  • Enhanced Parental leave.
  • MacBook and up to £500 home office set up budget.
  • £750 per person learning budget.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives including free therapy via Wellness Cloud, mental health support via Headspace.
  • Strong financial wellbeing focus including access to Octopus Money, Octopus Share Incentive Plan and will writing offering via Octopus Legacy.
  • Perkbox Flexi-points with discounts and perks including free weekly coffee, gym and retail discounts.
  • Cycle to Work and Octopus Electric Vehicle Leasing initiatives.
