About us: Van Store is an established, owner-run dealership with over 50 years in the motor trade. We're a trusted name in Warwickshire for quality used vans, with 50+ vehicles always in stock. We're not a faceless main-dealer chain - we're a small, privately owned business where everyone knows each other, the work is varied, and the person doing a great job gets noticed.

The role: You'll be the person who makes sure every van that leaves our forecourt is safe, reliable and something we're proud to sell. Day to day, you'll:

  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance and routine servicing across our LCV stock — oil and filter changes, fluids, brakes, tyres, batteries and general upkeep to keep vehicles in top condition
  • Inspect and carry out pre-sale checks on a wide range of light commercial vehicles (Ford, VW, Vauxhall, Mercedes-Benz, Iveco, Peugeot and more)
  • Work through detailed preparation checklists to our retail standard
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults - auto-electrics, wiring, sensors, lighting, charging and battery issues, and tracing intermittent faults using diagnostic equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve emissions control system faults - DPFs, EGR valves, AdBlue/SCR systems, sensors and related warning lights
  • Carry out mechanical repairs including clutches, suspension, exhausts and engine work
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and identify work needed to pass
  • Keep clear records of work carried out on each vehicle
  • Flag anything that affects whether a van is worth retailing, and suggest the most sensible fix

Because our stock varies so much in age, make and condition, no two days are the same. Electrical and emissions fault finding is a real part of the job — older and higher-mileage vans throw up wiring, sensor and emissions gremlins that need patience and proper diagnosis. We need someone who can think critically and problem-solve — working out the smartest, most cost-effective way to get each van right, not just following a script.

About you:

  • Time-served LCV or light vehicle experience (NVQ / City & Guilds / IMI Level 3 is ideal, but we'll consider strong practical experience)
  • Confident diagnosing and repairing across a range of van makes and models, both mechanical and electrical
  • Solid auto-electrical fault-finding skills and comfortable using diagnostic equipment
  • Experience diagnosing emissions control systems (DPF, EGR, AdBlue/SCR)
  • A genuine problem-solver who takes pride in their work
  • Able to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Full UK driving licence (Category B)

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary of £35,000–£50,000 depending on experience
  • A friendly, down-to-earth working environment
  • A genuine opportunity to grow and progress within a fast growing company
  • Flexibility - we're a small business and we understand life happens; we'll work around you where we can
  • Genuine variety - a constantly changing mix of vehicles rather than the same job all day
  • The autonomy to do the job properly, with your judgement trusted and valued
  • Long-term security with a stable, well-established local business
