We’re looking for Senior Geotechnical Engineers to join the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking the lead on high profile projects and frameworks.
  • Managing and supervising geotechnical/geoenvironmental investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing ensuring timely and quality delivery.
  • Taking a proactive approach in the responsibility for the Health and Safety of the project ensuring all required documentation in place.
  • Ensuring full communication across all management levels within the project.
  • Attending regular meetings with the client to discuss and appraise the performance of contract.
  • Providing the technical input into tendering and delivery of projects.
  • Managing medium and small projects to ensure project KPIs and deliverables are met.
  • Mentoring and targeting/facilitating the upskilling of engineers in the team.
  • Delivery of geotechnical projects and reports with working knowledge of UK design codes (including EC7 Part 1, and UK annexes), standards and specifications.
  • Making geotechnical recommendations including, earthworks, retaining structures, slopes and outline design of foundations.
  • Using of geotechnical software, such as Open Ground/Holebase to produce deliverables.
  • Holding a basic understanding of UK legislation relating to ground contamination and developing awareness of how risks and liabilities will impact upon land ownership, planning and development would be an advantage.
  • Planning, managing, supervising and interpreting ground investigations and laboratory test results.
  • Conducting oneself in a way that reflect and promotes the Van Elle company values.
  • Any other tasks that you may reasonably be required to undertake.

Who we're looking for

  • Previous experience in managing large, medium and small ground investigation projects.
  • Personable with strong communication and relationship building capabilities.
  • Experience in using Ground Investigation Data Management software such as Open Ground/Holebase/GINT.

Experience in the use of other software would be advantageous including settlement analysis and slope stability.

  • Knowledge of good practice in a variety of areas including earthworks, environmental assessment, remediation, coal workings, geotechnical aspects such as slope stability, foundation recommendations.
  • Knowledge of the role of investigation supervisor or contractors responsible engineer.
  • Working towards chartered status relevant to geotechnical engineering and/or environmental science.
  • Competent in all Microsoft applications, especially office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
  • Experience of working with GIS for GI management purposes is desirable.
  • Experience of effectively managing own priorities and meeting deadlines, in a fast-pace environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Eligible to work and live in the UK.
  • Flexibility to travel across the UK.
  • A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK
  • Valid CSCS
