Join us as a Site Safety Lead at our BUTEC site, working with state‑of‑the‑art technology alongside brilliant minds. This role is 37 hours per week, based at the British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre (BUTEC). Hybrid working patterns are available.
Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with the Head of Site and Site Compliance Lead to provide competent and professional health, safety and occasional environmental advice to operational and delivery teams.
- Lead a practical implementation and delivery of HSE legislation, policy, strategy and objectives; applying high professional standards through building strong professional internal networks.
- Lead on effective engagement with internal and external health and safety contacts/stakeholders around the organisation and industry through site visits, remote collaboration, and participation at relevant site meetings.
- Deliver the safety improvements and changes through a process of training, mentoring, coaching and facilitating.
- Provide advice and support to operational and delivery teams regarding HSE competence assessment, ensuring teams are competent to deliver against respective HSE accountabilities and responsibilities.
- Review and close out health and safety incident reporting, working with business/functional contacts to help them improve data quality, and support the investigation/management of environmental incidents.
Essential Experience
- Skilled practical knowledge of Safety Management Systems with working knowledge and experience of ISO 45001.
- Strong knowledge of delivery, operations and engineering environments.
- Proven ability and experience of leading and implementing change and improving safety outcomes within complex matrix organisations through proactive ownership and delivery.
- Highly motivated with excellent analytical, engagement, coaching and influencing skills across all levels of the organisation and ability to communicate complex and analytical information in clear language.
- Ability to be proactive, solution orientated and eager to drive change and improvements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to express complex issues using clear language and prioritise while managing multiple priorities.
Essential Qualifications
- Level 3 or Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Experience managing Health & Safety in the workplace either as an HSE Practitioner or in a delivery role with key HSE responsibilities.
- Chartered or working towards chartered status of a relevant professional body.
- Recognised training in accident investigation including root cause analysis techniques.
