We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Mentor/Head of Year to join a thriving secondary school in the Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside area. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by supporting their personal, social, and emotional development alongside their academic journey.

As a Pastoral Mentor/Head of Year, you will play a vital role in building positive relationships with students, supporting behaviour management strategies, and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

A Pastoral Mentor’s Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to students requiring additional support.
  • Act as a positive role model and trusted adult for young people.
  • Support students in managing behaviour, attendance, and emotional well-being.
  • Work closely with the school’s pastoral team, teaching staff, parents and external agencies.
  • Monitor and track progress, ensuring interventions have impact.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience of working with young people in an educational, youth work, or mentoring capacity.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Ability to support students facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Able to commute to the Greater Manchester area.
