We are recruiting for an experienced Technical Sales Manager to join a highly respected organisation within the construction and building services sector. This is a senior, client-facing position focused on large and complex construction projects, working with clients to understand, scope and secure the compliance testing and technical services required throughout their projects.
You could be supporting a client on a major commercial development where multiple areas, systems or buildings require testing to demonstrate compliance. You will need to understand the project, interpret its requirements, establish the scope and volume of testing required, and work with internal technical teams to develop the right commercial solution. This is not a team management position. It is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who can confidently manage major clients and complex, high-value projects.
The Role
- Work with clients delivering large commercial construction and building projects.
- Attend construction sites and client meetings to understand the size, scope, programme and technical requirements of each project.
- Identify and scope the compliance testing and associated technical services required across the project.
- Understand project plans, specifications and technical documentation to help establish the type and volume of testing required.
- Develop commercial proposals for large, complex testing packages, rather than selling individual or transactional services.
- Support clients throughout the project lifecycle, adapting testing requirements as projects progress.
- Manage relationships with senior stakeholders including main contractors, developers, consultants, engineers and building services professionals.
- Work closely with internal engineers and technical specialists to ensure proposed testing programmes meet project and compliance requirements.
- Manage longer, more complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and significant project values.
- Develop new opportunities through an established network within the construction sector.
About You
You must have a strong background within construction, building services or a closely related engineering environment and understand how major construction projects are delivered. You may currently be working as a Technical Sales Manager, Senior Account Manager, Key Account Manager, Business Development Manager, Technical Business Development Manager or commercially focused Engineer.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
- Experience working with large and complex construction projects.
- Strong understanding of the construction process and how major projects progress from specification through to completion.
- Experience selling technical, engineering, compliance, testing or project-based services into construction.
- The ability to understand drawings, specifications, project documentation and technical requirements.
- Experience scoping and commercially pricing complex project requirements.
- The credibility to work with senior clients and technical stakeholders on major projects.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
- An established understanding and ideally a network within the construction/building services sector.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to regularly visit construction client sites.
An engineering or technical background would be highly advantageous, particularly for someone who has subsequently moved into technical sales, account management or business development.
Package
Competitive salary depending on relevant experience + commission + benefits. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction professional who understands complex projects, technical requirements and commercial sales, and wants to take ownership of major client projects without moving into people management.
