Job role and responsibilities

This role goes beyond traditional “end‑of‑line testing”. You will play a key role in shaping how testing is done across the team, introducing pragmatic test processes, and holding developers accountable for the quality of their own work.

Initially, the role will be heavily hands‑on. Over time, you’ll help us move towards a more mature, structured approach to testing without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.

Key responsibilities

Hands‑on testing

Perform manual testing of:

  • Power Apps (Canvas and Model‑driven)
  • Power Automate flows
  • Dataverse data models, business rules, and security roles
  • Validate functional and non‑functional requirements before release
  • Identify defects early and clearly articulate impact and root cause
  • Support and shape User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with internal teams and customers

Test process & quality improvement

  • Define and maintain lightweight, scalable testing processes
  • Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and regression test packs
  • Establish clear quality gates and “definition of done” criteria
  • Ensure testing is considered early in the delivery lifecycle, not just at the end
  • Reimagine, own and drive measurable Quality & Testing KPIs that will drive business decisions

Developer accountability & collaboration

  • Set clear expectations for developer testing before QA handover
  • Challenge incomplete or poorly tested work constructively and professionally
  • Coach developers on effective testing practices for Power Platform solutions
  • Act as a quality advocate across the delivery team

Environment & release support

  • Work with delivery and technical leads to ensure:
  • Clear separation of Dev / Test / Production environments

Consistent deployment and release practices

  • Support regression testing during fixes, enhancements, and releases
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of ALM and release processes

Person Specification

  • Proven experience as a QA / Test Engineer in a software delivery environment
  • Hands‑on experience testing Power Platform solutions (Power Apps and Power Automate)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Low‑code / configuration‑driven applications
    • Data‑driven systems and business logic
  • Confidence challenging developers and influencing ways of working
  • Ability to balance pragmatism with quality — knowing when “good enough” really is
  • Experience testing solutions built on Dataverse
  • Exposure to:
    • Solution‑based deployments
    • Environment management (Dev / Test / Prod)
    • UAT facilitation
  • Familiarity with test management tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, TestRail, similar)
  • Interest in or exposure to test automation (even if limited in Power Platform)

Personal attributes

  • Pragmatic and practical — not process‑heavy for the sake of it
  • Comfortable getting “hands dirty” with real testing
  • Confident communicator who can challenge constructively
  • Curious and improvement‑focused
  • Organised, detail‑oriented, and outcome‑driven

What success looks like

  • Within 6–9 months:
  • Fewer avoidable defects reaching UAT or production
  • Developers consistently performing and evidencing their own testing
  • Clear, repeatable testing practices across projects
  • QA involved earlier in solution design and delivery discussions
  • Improved confidence in releases across the business
  • Work on meaningful, real‑world Power Platform solutions
  • Influence how quality is approached across the organisation
  • Opportunity to grow the role as our delivery capability matures
  • A culture that values pragmatism, accountability, and continuous improvement

Culture and Mindset

  • Accountability: Takes ownership and responsibility for tasks and outcomes
  • Growth: Seek out opportunities to learn and develop continuously.
  • Excellence: Aim for high standards and quality in everything you do.
  • Customer First: Put customer needs and satisfaction at the forefront.
  • Commitment: Show dedication and perseverance in achieving our goals

What We offer

  • 25 Days + Bank Holidays
  • 10% Annual Salary Bonus linked to Company Performance
  • An extra day off for your birthday
  • Private Medical Cover with Vitality
  • Eye test (plus a pair of NHS prescription glasses if required for DSE)
  • Online Rewards App
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Quarterly Face to Face Business Celebrations
  • Monthly Happy Hour Get Togethers
  • £500 Employee Referral Bonus
  • £500 Added to Salary for Every Valto Certified Exam Passed
  • Microsoft Certification Free Exams and Matched Work Study Time
  • Hybrid & Remote Working with a focus on remote first
  • Work from Home Equipment Provided
  • Cutting Edge Office in Chester with Table Football and Xbox
  • Valto work with the latest technology and provide the best‑in‑class equipment to our staff
  • Car Salary Sacrifice with Octopus

The package on offer is depending on experience with up to 10% bonus
