The role would suit someone from a solar PV, roofing, construction, carpentry, electrical support, groundwork, engineering, handyman or general site background.

The role will involve assisting with site preparation, moving materials, supporting roof works, cable pulling, containment, trenching where required, loading and unloading vans, and helping the team deliver high-quality installations safely and efficiently. Whilst this is mainly a site-based role, there will also be some storehouse duties, including preparing equipment, dealing with deliveries, organising materials and managing site waste. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, can solve practical problems on site, and wants to develop within a growing renewable energy business.

  • Deal with deliveries, site waste and general material organisation
  • Work closely with electricians, roofers and senior installers
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
  • Communicate professionally with customers and colleagues
  • Help identify practical issues on site and work with the team to find solutions
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times

Requirements

  • Strong practical background in solar, roofing, construction, electrical support, carpentry, groundworks, handyman work, engineering or general site work
  • At least 1 year of solar installation experience or equivalent practical trade experience
  • Confident using hand tools and power tools
  • Comfortable working outdoors and carrying out physical site work
  • Able to work safely at height, or willing to undertake training
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach with customers
  • Able to work well as part of a team
  • Valid UK driving licence
  • Own transport and ability to commute to Reading and the surrounding area

  • Roofing or working at height experience
  • Cable pulling or basic electrical installation support
  • Trenching or groundwork support
  • General handyman, maintenance or site operative background
  • Manual handling certificate
  • Working at height certificate
  • Solar PV qualification
  • Experience working with domestic customers

Package

  • £25,000 to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Company pension
  • Training and development within the solar PV and battery storage sector
  • Varied, hands-on role with long-term progression
  • Supportive team environment

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be practical, reliable and hands-on, with the ability to support solar PV installations from start to finish. You may currently be working as a Solar Installer, Roofer’s Mate, Labourer, Handyman, Groundworker, Maintenance Operative, Electrical Mate, Installation Operative or General Site Operative. You will be someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in doing the job properly, and is keen to develop within the renewable energy sector. A positive attitude, strong work ethic and ability to work well with customers and colleagues will be essential.
