Job Summary:

We have 3 Power machines with 8 guests running AIX 7.2, and 2 HMCs spread across two datacenters. We do not use HACMP, but we do have a NIM server. The core application running is a Progress Open Edge database used by our Industrial and commercial division. Graphical printing is via StreamServe running on an Oracle database. The storage is NPIV SAN running on Dell Unity.

Opportunity:

We have a skills shortage in house and would like to explore acquiring a service that would enable us to conduct the day-to-day administration activities of our Unix estate and provide overnight support in the event of a failure. We operate an application called AMCS Clear, an ERP specifically designed for the Waste Management industry and a critical part of our operation. This is in the process of being replaced with its more modern equivalent in the next 18 – 24 months after which we intend to extract the data and decommission.

Required:

  • Update our Documentation
  • Review the DR plan and Test
  • Fix any user issues or challenges with AMCS Clear functioning
  • VIOS & HMC & OS upgrades
  • Monitoring work to include Progress Openedge errors, replication status
  • Implement best security practices
  • Admin script work, to work through the cron and /local/usr/ scripts
  • DR setup and testing
  • Hardening r protocol removal
  • General systems tidy up, e.g., removal of old disks, users, printers
  • Samba upgrade from SMBv1
  • NIM server work
  • New Progress Openedge backups to SAN, currently utilising JFS2 snaps and NetBackup and from this output produce a process for restoring to test systems
