Overview

Our client within the Energy sector is seeking an experienced Technical Architect to support the delivery of digital transformation initiatives and strategic technology programmes. This role is ideal for an Architect who has progressed from a hands-on Software Development background and can bridge the gap between business requirements, architecture, and technical delivery. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing secure, scalable, and cloud-based solutions while working closely with development teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and document technical requirements, solution architectures, and technology standards.
  • Translate business requirements and user journeys into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
  • Provide architectural governance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure solutions align with architectural principles, security standards, and non-functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers, technical teams, and third-party suppliers to ensure successful solution delivery.
  • Support technology partner selection, onboarding, and technical assurance activities.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate Proof of Concept (PoC) solutions.
  • Support the implementation of secure, resilient, and scalable cloud-based platforms.
  • Create and maintain architecture, design, and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to governance processes where technical dependencies exist.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance systems, processes, and technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise during stakeholder workshops, consultations, and industry engagements.
  • Promote best practices and emerging technologies across the organisation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Software Development, Technical Design, Solution Architecture, or related technical roles.
  • Previous hands-on experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, Technical Lead, or Senior Developer before moving into Architecture.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, development methodologies, and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale solutions and distributed systems.
  • Strong experience working with cloud-based architectures and modern application platforms.
  • Ability to work closely with development teams and provide technical leadership throughout delivery.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of OAuth and OpenID Connect.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on development experience with one or more of the following: Python, Go, JavaScript, HTML/CSS.
  • Experience with API Gateway technologies.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure solution design.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern integration patterns.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the Energy & Utilities sector.
  • Experience working in regulated environments.
  • Understanding of digital transformation programmes and enterprise architecture frameworks.
