The Opportunity

We are looking for a high-calibre Senior Power Trader to play a pivotal role in driving trading performance and strategic growth. In this dynamic position, you will support the Head of Trading in maximizing speculative P&L while managing fixed-price risk and ensuring the wider business has a robust route to market. This role is ideal for a proactive, analytical trader who thrives on mid-to-long-term market views and wants to make a real impact on a globally-minded team with a footprint across the UK, US, and Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Speculative P&L Management: Generate profit within defined trading limits, specifically focusing on the UK Power and Gas curves.
  • Strategic Hedging: Lead the shaping of book hedging strategies to minimize downside exposure and protect the portfolio.
  • Route to Market (RTM): Provide high-level RTM services to both internal flow businesses and external customers.
  • Market Insight & Analytics: Coordinate with the Trading Analysis team to enhance fundamental modeling, price forecasting, and market insights.
  • Expansion & Innovation: Support the entry into new international energy markets and collaborate on the development of new trading products and market access tools.
  • Mentorship: Act as a technical authority on the desk, providing backup across trading books and supporting the development of junior team members.

The Profile

  • Substantial Experience: A proven track record in Power and Gas trading (specifically Curve/Forward markets).
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of UK Power Auctions and the mechanics of traded energy markets.
  • Analytical Power: Ability to translate complex data and modeling into actionable trading strategies.
  • Commercial Drive: A proactive approach to identifying pricing inefficiencies and maximizing P&L opportunities.
  • Relationship Management: Experience in providing route-to-market services and collaborating with cross-functional teams (Flow, Risk, and Analysis).
