Key Responsibilities
- Product and Project Ownership: Lead delivery of smart grid digital tools and technical products for flexible connections and DERMS integration. Provide training and develop processes to ensure seamless business integration and deployment.
- Technical Analysis and Power Systems Expertise: Conduct power system studies (thermal, voltage, fault level) to identify network constraints. Produce engineering analysis, data insights, policies, and design standards to optimize active networks and support Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
- Programming and Data Science: Build Python-based tools, data pipelines, dashboards, and APIs to meet evolving business needs. Utilize GitHub for version control, collaboration, and codebase documentation.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the key interface between DSO, Connections, Planning, Operations, and IS teams. Engage customers, IDNOs, vendors, and consultants to co-design solutions, and represent UK Power Networks in external working groups.
- Mentoring and Capability Building: Guide junior engineers and analysts through training, code reviews, and technical support. Champion best practices in product, platform, and software development.
Requirements
- Proven experience in power systems engineering, including studies for thermal, voltage, and fault levels.
- Strong Python programming skills for tool development, data pipelines, dashboards, and APIs; familiarity with GitHub for version control.
- Background in product development, platform engineering, and smart grid/DERMS technologies.
- Excellent stakeholder management, with experience interfacing across technical and commercial teams.
- Ability to perform data analysis and produce engineering standards/policies for distribution networks.
