Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to join a large-scale IT and digital transformation programme within the public sector. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of four, reporting directly to the Service Design & Transition Lead and collaborating closely with another Service Designer. This role will focus on supporting Service Design and Introduction (SD&I) activities, ensuring that services are fully designed, documented, and ready for successful transition into live operational environments. The ideal candidate will have strong ITIL knowledge, excellent stakeholder management skills, and experience working across technical, supplier, and operational teams in fast-paced environments. Public sector experience is highly desirable, with policing sector experience considered an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Service Design activities across large-scale IT and digital transformation programmes.
- Author detailed Service Design Documents (SDDs) outlining service models, service management processes, and transition approaches.
- Progress projects through formal Service Design & Introduction (SD&I) and Service Acceptance governance processes.
- Work closely with BAU service management teams and operational stakeholders to ensure all service acceptance criteria are achieved prior to go-live.
- Collaborate with suppliers, technical delivery teams, and operational stakeholders to ensure smooth service transition into live support.
- Ensure service readiness, operational support requirements, and transition plans are aligned with programme objectives.
- Support governance, risk, and compliance activities related to service design and transition.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within service management and operational processes.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience supporting Service Design activities within large-scale IT or digital transformation programmes.
- Strong understanding of ITIL Service Management principles, particularly:
- Service Design
- Service Transition
- Service Acceptance
- Experience progressing projects through formal SD&I governance processes.
- Experience creating and maintaining Service Design Documentation (SDD).
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with suppliers, technical teams, and operational stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced delivery environments.
- Previous experience within the Public Sector.
- Policing sector experience would be highly advantageous.
- Experience working within secure or highly regulated environments.
