About the Role - Battery Energy storage system operations and maintenance

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient performance. The role combines field-based activities with home-office working and involves troubleshooting, inspections, performance optimisation, maintenance planning and emergency response support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on BESS assets and associated infrastructure.
  • Perform remote and on-site diagnostics, inspections and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support commissioning activities, system upgrades and major repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and site procedures.
  • Supervise subcontractors and monitor quality of third-party works.
  • Review maintenance documentation, reports, RAMS and operational procedures.
  • Support annual maintenance planning and coordination with OEM suppliers.
  • Participate in on-call support for urgent site issues outside normal working hours.

Candidate Requirements

  • Electrical engineering qualification is essential.
  • Experience within renewable energy, power generation, utilities or related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of LV systems, inverters, energy management systems and battery technology.
  • ECS/CSCS card, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of UK HSE regulations and safe working practices.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
  • Experience within BESS or energy storage projects would be highly advantageous.
  • HV operational experience is desirable.

Additional Information

  • The role is predominantly site-based, with home-office working when not on site.
  • Coverage is required across two locations: Oxfordshire and Southampton . Candidates based in London or near either site would be particularly well positioned.
  • Sites operate 24/7, and occasional weekend work may be required to address urgent operational issues.
  • The projects are expected to run for approximately 8-12 years , providing excellent long-term career stability.
