An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Earthing Design Engineer to join a growing specialist earthing team. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including electrical, protection, civil, and construction specialists on a wide range of power and energy infrastructure projects.

Projects include the design of above and below ground earthing systems across renewable energy, energy storage, power generation, and electrical infrastructure projects ranging from high-voltage substations through to lower voltage installations. Work will typically involve projects such as solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substation developments. There will also be opportunities to contribute to AC interference studies, impressed voltage studies, lightning risk assessments, and lightning protection design.

This role is primarily office or home-based, with limited requirement for site attendance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering projects through the full lifecycle from tender stage through design and commissioning.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve earthing designs within the engineering team and across associated electrical projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and graduate engineers.
  • Plan and manage project delivery to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Support the preparation of technical proposals and tender submissions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to contractors and engineering partners.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and growth of the specialist earthing team.
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Strong experience in earthing design and studies within the power or energy sector.
  • Experience working on projects involving equipment such as energy storage systems, renewable generation, or similar electrical infrastructure.
  • Advanced user of CDEGS software and associated modules (e.g. MALZ, HIFREQ, TRALIN, SPLITS).
  • Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulations, and network operator requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and client communication skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience using other modelling software such as EMTP-ATP or XGSLab.
  • Practical experience with soil resistivity testing, earth resistance measurements, or earthing compliance surveys.
  • Experience undertaking lightning risk assessments and lightning protection design.
  • Working towards or having achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IET.
