Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Linux DevOps Engineer to join a banking client. The role is heavily focused on Linux administration, automation and infrastructure engineering, with strong hands-on experience in Python and Ansible. The successful candidate will be responsible for automating infrastructure and operational processes, supporting Linux environments and working closely with engineering and infrastructure teams. Knowledge of F5 networking/load balancing will be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support Linux/Unix environments across enterprise infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain automation using Ansible.
  • Write Python scripts for infrastructure automation, monitoring and operational tasks.
  • Automate repetitive infrastructure and deployment processes.
  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles and modules.
  • Troubleshoot Linux, application and infrastructure issues.
  • Work with DevOps and infrastructure teams to improve automation and operational efficiency.
  • Support configuration management and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Integrate automation with existing CI/CD and DevOps processes.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Work within banking-grade security, governance and change-management processes.
  • Collaborate with networking teams, particularly around F5 load-balancing infrastructure.

Essential Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux administration.
  • Strong Ansible experience – playbooks, roles, inventories and automation.
  • Strong Python scripting skills.
  • Good understanding of DevOps and infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with shell scripting such as Bash.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS and load balancing.
  • Experience with Git/version control.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with F5 BIG-IP / LTM.
  • Understanding of F5 configuration, virtual servers, pools, monitors and load-balancing concepts.
  • Experience automating F5 infrastructure using Ansible/Python.
  • CI/CD experience with tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management.
  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Previous experience working within banking or financial services environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL/change and incident management processes.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Linux/DevOps Engineer who is strong in Python and Ansible automation rather than purely a Linux administrator. They should be comfortable automating infrastructure, troubleshooting Linux environments and working with networking teams. F5 knowledge is an important advantage, particularly experience with F5 BIG-IP/LTM and automation.
