Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a federated Data Governance model using Hub–Spoke structures, RACI and clear decision rights.
  • Establish Data Governance policies, standards and procedures for R&D data such as patient, compound, clinical, study and safety data.
  • Apply DAMA, FAIR and ALCOA+ principles to improve data quality, integrity, accessibility, traceability and reuse.
  • Ensure Data Governance practices support regulated environments, including GxP, GDPR and FDA requirements.
  • Define and maintain Data Owner, Data Steward and Governance roles with clear responsibilities and accountability.
  • Lead Data Governance programmes and coordinate activities across business, R&D, IT, Quality, Regulatory, Privacy and Compliance teams.
  • Run workshops with stakeholders to understand data issues, agree governance requirements and develop practical solutions.
  • Develop data quality, metadata, lineage and governance standards and monitor adoption.
  • Support change management, including communication, training and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coach and support Data Owners and Data Stewards to adopt governance processes and standards.
  • Track governance adoption, data quality improvements, risks and remediation through appropriate KPIs and dashboards.
  • Provide governance oversight across R&D processes, including clinical development, research, safety and regulatory data, where applicable.

Key Requirements

  • Strong experience in Data Governance and Data Management, preferably within R&D, pharmaceutical or biotech environments.
  • Good understanding of DAMA, FAIR and ALCOA+ principles.
  • Experience designing federated governance models, RACI matrices, decision rights and stewardship models.
  • Experience developing data policies, standards, procedures and governance frameworks.
  • Experience working in regulated environments, including GxP, GDPR and FDA compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Data Quality, Metadata, Data Lineage and Data Catalogues.
  • Experience leading data transformation programmes and multiple workstreams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across business and technical teams.
  • Experience in change management, training, communication and adoption.
  • Ability to coach Data Owners, Data Stewards and business teams.
  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation or similar is desirable.
  • Knowledge of pharma/R&D processes, such as clinical development, biostatistics, safety and regulatory workflows, would be an advantage.
