Overview: Senior Electrical Design Engineer role within an energy infrastructure company, leading the electrical design process for high-voltage substation projects (up to 132kV) within the distribution and connections sector. Responsible for overseeing design delivery, mentoring engineers, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate electrical design for HV substation projects (SLDs, HV cabling layouts, protection systems).
- Review and approve technical studies (fault analysis, protection coordination).
- Ensure compliance with standards, BS EN and IEC regulations.
- Mentor and support design engineers within the team.
- Act as technical point of contact for clients and internal teams.
- Collaborate with project management, civil/mechanical teams, and site teams to deliver projects.
- Support tenders, procurement, value engineering and resolve design issues during installation/commissioning.
- Attend site visits and design review meetings.
Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5 years experience in HV electrical design (substations up to 132kV).
- Strong knowledge of standards, protection & control systems.
- Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Amtech, ETAP.
- Leadership/mentoring experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards.
- BIM / 3D design experience.
- Experience delivering substation projects.
