This rewarding career is a hands-on position in the workshop and requires an interest and desire for a career in welding. You will gain a wide and varied understanding of welding processes to serve a wide range of sectors and industries. The successful candidate will learn a broad set of skills, including MIG and TIG welding techniques, measuring and marking out, designing and manufacturing jigs to aid in welding, an appreciation of machining processes, mechanical design, and interpreting technical drawings. By the end of the apprenticeship, they will be able to confidently and competently weld metal assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Learn how to weld metal components using MIG and TIG techniques.
- Read and understand technical drawings.
- Complete all work to high company standards.
- Follow strict health and safety guidelines.
Training
- First year – Block release, off-the-job training at the chosen training provider.
- Second year – Return to Valley Hydraulics and further training, including one day per week at the selected training provider.
- Third and fourth year – Develop welding skills further with the aim of completing the Level 3 Diploma in advanced manufacturing engineering.
Requirements
- Minimum age 16 years.
- Minimum or expected grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English.
- Strong interest in engineering and welding.
