Responsible to: Out of School Clubs Coordinator

Rate of Pay: £5,669.75 per annum/£14.21 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) (FTE £24,589.50 per annum)

Hours of Work: 10.5 hours per week, term time only

Working Hours: 7.30am – 9am Monday – Friday plus 3 hours non-contact time for preparation, planning and admin

Job Description

Purpose & Scope

To be responsible for the management and delivery of a safe, caring, and enriching out-of-school club environment in which children can enjoy healthy food, stimulating activities and be made to feel welcome and cared for by a dedicated staff team.

This will include taking responsibility for:

  • The effective and smooth operation of the breakfast/after school club, with the needs and interests of the child as the first priority.
  • Managing staff and maintaining a healthy, creative, and effective team culture.
  • The oversight of the organisational requirements of the club, ensuring that the club is served by accurate and up-to-date record keeping.
  • Maintaining close communication with the Out of School Club Coordinator, and with the Head of Children and Families Outreach when required. Including reporting safeguarding/child protection concerns.
  • Ensuring the club is run in accordance with Valley CiDS policies, procedures, and ethos.
  • Diligently ensuring that children and staff enjoy a safe and nurturing environment in which all risks are eradicated or minimised and managed at a satisfactory level.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • To supervise team members by encouraging, leading, and supporting the team of club assistants and to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children, with creative and appropriate play opportunities.
  • To supervise all club activities (including monitoring attendance, set up and pack down) and the children (including behavioural and emotional needs, first aid).
  • To carry out detailed planning and preparation for sessions.
  • To implement the healthy eating menu for the week, meeting food hygiene regulations, and purchasing the necessary food items to do this.
  • To keep accurate records including attendance, finance, accident/injury reports and safeguarding.
  • To develop and maintain a good working relationship with school staff, parents, and carers, ensuring clear communications concerning children accessing the clubs. Communication includes but is not limited to, utilising the Class Dojo messaging service to share news and information with families.
  • To promote the Zest club in partnership with the school.
  • To adhere to all relevant organisational and departmental policies, ensuring that they are consistently implemented by all team members. This includes but is not limited to, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality and Whistle Blowing.
  • To attend training events as required (which may include during school holidays in agreement with your line manager), attending one to one meeting with your line manager on an agreed date in the school holidays.
  • To undertake any other duties, compatible with the role, which are required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Can embrace and uphold the ethos, vision, and values of Valley CIDS at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a diverse workload.
  • Committed to the importance of equality, equity, diversity & inclusion when working with children and colleagues.
  • Previous experience of having worked in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
  • Competent in use of IT, including the ability to use app-based messaging services, Microsoft Word, and complete data entry.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and practices.
  • Minimum level 2 childcare, or other relevant qualification.

Desirable

  • Understanding of prevent awareness and prevent duty.
