If you have excellent employment law experience (from grievance to final hearing) and are looking for a more rewarding, flexible way of working that fits into your life, keep reading! Valla is a legal platform that connects litigants in person with coaches (legal professionals) who can give them extra support. We are currently looking for Employment Law Experts to join our team who help litigants in person to navigate the tribunal system.

Valla does not provide legal experts with training on employment law. You must therefore already be confident in advising clients on common employment law claims including unfair dismissal, constructive unfair dismissal, and discrimination. This role is most suited to qualified lawyers who have recent specialist experience in employment law (including practising or non-practising solicitors, barristers and CILEX professionals). Non-lawyers will be considered but you must have significant employment law experience.

This is a part-time contractor role where you can choose your own hours, all fully remote. The contract rate is £40/hr. Work is fully flexible with no obligation; however, we would expect that you would have the opportunity to pick up around 5-35 hours per week (depending on what your preference is).

As an Employment Law Expert at Valla, you will use the Valla platform to support litigants in person as they navigate the Employment Tribunal process. This includes:

  • Answering user questions about the Tribunal process in 1-1 video calls
  • Helping users understand communications from their employers/respondents' legal team
  • Guiding them on options and case strategy
  • Performing "peace of mind" checks on the ET1 Particulars of Claim/Paper Apart and other documents drafted by users
  • Cheering clients on as they work through the Tribunal process and offering tips and encouragement.

Valla was built by two women who had issues at work and couldn't afford to hire a law firm to help them. Our founders realised that so many people were unable to take serious issues forward because of high costs, so created a platform that helps employees manage all the admin and document prep. That means that as a Coach, you won't be collating loads of documents or filling in forms; you'll be looking at real situations from real people and offering support and encouragement.

We are looking for people who:

  • Want to directly support employees who are going through a difficult time
  • Have a warm, friendly demeanour and like chatting to people
  • Are tired of working to targets and want more rewarding work.

And in terms of your employment law experience, you must be:

  • Very well-versed in UK employment law (currently we cover England, Scotland and Wales)
  • Comfortable picking up work straight away with very minimal support
  • Experienced in being a client’s main adviser for their Employment Tribunal case (ideally, you have done this on many occasions). If you did this as part of a team of lawyers or advisers, you acted as the main adviser on the team.

At Valla, we care deeply about creating employment opportunities for everyone. If you want to fit work around your caring responsibilities, please apply. If you have a disability and want to talk about adjustments, please apply. If you are returning to work after a long while off, please apply. We will train you up on the Valla platform and our coaching process and are excited to meet you!
