Validus is looking for a Platform Engineer to join our growing platform team. The team builds and maintains the frameworks, infrastructure, and tools that power our technology platform, Horizon. You’ll help improve and support our AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and internal developer tooling, working closely with experienced engineers and other technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cloud‑native services on AWS under guidance from senior engineers
- Collaborate with the Quant team to move compute‑intensive simulations to scalable cloud infrastructure
- Contribute to the design and implementation of improvements to our job scheduling framework for quantitative workloads
- Help integrate and maintain third‑party tools (e.g., Snyk, Datadog) that support platform operations
- Improve monitoring and observability across our systems
- Support the containerisation of services and deployment on AWS
- Maintain clear documentation for platform projects and processes
- Participate in problem‑solving design discussions and propose solutions
Requirements
- Minimum 1+ year of commercial experience with Python in a platform, back‑end or DevOps setting (other languages acceptable)
- Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, API Gateway and Step Functions
- Experience with databases (MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB or other)
- Experience with IaC tools such as CDK, Terraform or Pulumi
- Experience building and optimising CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or New Relic
- Understanding of architecture patterns; event‑driven microservices is a plus
- Curiosity to explore new technologies
- Strong communication skills and willingness to mentor junior developers
