Valiant Finance is an award-winning FinTech startup on a mission to simplify business lending. Our cloud-based platform helps thousands of Australian small businesses compare and apply for loans from over 80 of the country's leading lenders. Our platform drives the commercial lending capabilities for some of the world's most recognised brands.
We are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis to provide critical global coverage. While our core engineering team is based in Australia, we are remote-friendly and looking for an engineer dedicated to operating on UK business hours. We seek a candidate who is passionate about engineering and technology, can solve technical problems, and communicate problems and solutions with ease.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning Level 2+ Support: Triaging, debugging, and resolving complex technical tickets escalated by our customer success and L1 support teams.
- Core Engineering: When the support queue is clear, you will operate as a standard backend engineer — tackling technical debt, performing system maintenance, and optimising the platform.
- Integrating with a range of external services such as Salesforce, Auth0, Cloudflare, and more.
- Maintaining our infrastructure on a major cloud provider to support our rapid growth.
- Writing well-structured, tested, and documented code that’s a pleasure to maintain.
- Working closely with our Product, Design, and other teams to refine deliverables and bring new features to life.
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to work standard UK business hours (remote).
- Minimum 5 years of commercial Ruby on Rails experience.
- Proven experience in a technical support, site reliability, or escalations engineering role.
- Proven experience integrating with multiple external APIs.
- Experience with database design and performance tuning, particularly with PostgreSQL.
- Experience designing and maintaining infrastructure with AWS, GCP, or Heroku.
- Experience with testing frameworks like Rspec.
- Experience with high-volume background job processing frameworks like Sidekiq.
- Proficiency with development tools like Linear or Jira.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, crucial for customer and internal team interactions.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with helpdesk or ticketing software (e.g., Zendesk, ZohoDesk).
- Experience with security best practices (e.g., OWASP, STRIDE).
- Interest in automating repetitive tasks using AI tools and techniques.
- Experience in high-volume production environments with strict availability SLAs.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry (lending or corporate finance).
- Experience navigating GDPR and/or SOC2.
Benefits & Culture
- We are a remote-friendly team, and while this role is completely remote to cover UK hours, you’ll be deeply integrated into our culture.
- Embrace your need for work-life balance with our remote/hybrid working model.
- Celebrate the joy of starting a family with 8 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Company-wide events designed to honour and celebrate all the outstanding achievements of our amazing team.
- Opportunity to shape the future of AI in Australian and EU fintech.
- Access to latest AI tools and technologies for productivity.
