Job Description
Now we’re looking for a Specifications Technologist to join us on a 12-month fixed-term contract at our Matthew Walker site in Heanor – the home of the nation’s most iconic Christmas puddings.
Are you passionate about food, detail-driven, and skilled in technical documentation? We are looking for a Specifications Technologist to join our team and support the delivery of accurate, customer-focused specifications and artworks, while ensuring compliance with food legislation and regulations.
This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality products by collaborating with cross-functional teams, maintaining regulatory standards, and ensuring timely approval of specifications and artworks.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Focus
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, artwork agencies, and printers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with NPD, Brand, and Manufacturing teams to ensure specifications and artworks are correct and complete.
- Support the creation and verification of internal product specifications.
Specifications & Artwork
- Write and maintain accurate electronic specifications for both private label and branded finished products.
- Manage the artwork approval process across sites, ensuring alignment with critical paths and customer requirements.
- Review and sign off packaging and artwork in line with legal and technical standards.
Regulatory & Legislation
- Provide guidance and support on food legislation, regulatory compliance, and nutritional matters.
- Supply internal teams and customers with up-to-date regulatory and export/import information as required.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Degree in Food Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of retailer specification systems and requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Excellent relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proactive and “hands-on” approach to work, with a drive to succeed.
- Good understanding of food manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and confident working with digital systems.
