This opportunity is particularly suited to someone with a strong technical background in socks, although experience across underwear and loungewear will also be considered.

You'll play an important role in bringing products from the initial development stage through to production, ensuring they meet the required standards for fit, quality, performance and durability. Working alongside internal teams and international manufacturing partners, you'll be responsible for resolving technical challenges, reviewing samples and ensuring products are ready for production.

The role

  • Overseeing the technical development of sock products from initial design through to production.
  • Creating and maintaining accurate product specifications, measurements and construction details.
  • Reviewing technical packs and recommending improvements to fit, construction and product performance.
  • Assessing samples and providing clear feedback to factories to resolve any technical issues.
  • Carrying out fit assessments and checking sizing, comfort and overall product quality.
  • Working closely with overseas manufacturers to ensure products meet agreed specifications.
  • Reviewing yarns, materials and construction techniques to ensure they are suitable for the finished product.
  • Ensuring products meet relevant retailer requirements, quality standards and legislation.
  • Coordinating product testing, including shrinkage, colour fastness, abrasion, pilling and fibre composition.
  • Reviewing laboratory results and working with suppliers to resolve any failures.
  • Identifying and addressing quality concerns before products reach production.
  • Managing technical deadlines to ensure development and production schedules remain on track.
  • Supporting improvements in manufacturing processes and product quality.

What we're looking for

  • Previous experience working as a Garment Technologist, ideally with specialist knowledge of socks.
  • A strong understanding of garment construction and manufacturing, particularly within socks, underwear or loungewear.
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories and suppliers.
  • The ability to assess samples, identify fit issues and recommend technical improvements.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing technical specifications and product measurements.
  • A good understanding of yarns, fabrics, materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience interpreting laboratory testing results and addressing quality issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with different teams and suppliers.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several product developments simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working with major UK or international retailers would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and manufacturing practices would also be beneficial.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Clothing Technology, Textile Technology or a related subject is preferred, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.

About you

You'll be someone who takes pride in product quality and understands the importance of getting the technical details right. You should be comfortable working independently, identifying potential issues and communicating with suppliers to find practical solutions. A commercially aware approach, strong organisational skills and a genuine interest in product development will be important.

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
