St Illtyd Primary School is situated in the small town of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan. Although Llantwit Major is largely an area of privately owned homes, there is an area of social housing and the school also takes a number of pupils from the MOD base at St Athan. More recently, we have pupils coming to our school from Ukrainian and Afghanistan families. The school is set in modern accommodation with a large playground and adjoining playing field. The school shares the site with a Voluntary Group and private nursery.
The school has a current admission number of 54, but this is being reviewed to 45 due to falling population. There is a 74 place Nursery. The current number on role is 310 FTE. We are proud of our inclusivity and have a reputation of being very supportive to all pupils and their families, particularly those with ALN. We recently won Primary School and overall School of the Year at the South Wales Schools and Education Awards 2024. The staff in school work extremely hard to support each other and the children. This is one of the factors that make our school work so well. We would like to think of ourselves as forward thinking in terms of the new curriculum and are looking for colleagues who are willing to embrace the changes ahead with enthusiasm and a fantastic attitude.
