The Vale of Glamorgan Council's Children and Young People Services Division seeks to put individuals at the heart of their own care, no matter why they need social care support. Children and Young People Services are investing in their workforce and have created new Social Care Officer posts across their statutory teams. Successful candidates will be matched to teams according to their skills and experience and areas of interest. There is a role available in the Family Support Team, working with children and families where their needs have identified the need for care and support. This includes children on the Child Protection Register and those in pre and care proceedings. All our Social Care Officers have access to excellent training, including the opportunity to consider training to become Social Workers.

About the role

Pay Details: Grade 6, SCP *******, £28,624 – £31,067 (Pro-rata)

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 18.5 hours, Monday – Thursday ***********, Friday ***********

Main Place of Work: You will have access to office space in Barry and work across the Vale of Glamorgan, including the opportunity to work from home according to the needs of the service.

Description: As a Social Care Officer, you will support children, young people and their families/carers, in line with the relevant legislation, guidance, regulations and national standards. You will work independently, and as part of a multi-agency team, undertaking assessments in partnership with children, young people and families to enable them to achieve the outcomes they want to and that meet their needs.

  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of collating and evaluating information.
  • Awareness and understanding of the issues in relation to children with complexity of need.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Knowledge of different types of social work intervention.
