Overview
To provide a physical Security presence, both internal and external, at Authority owned premises in order to deter theft, fire, damage/vandalism and intrusion. To provide efficient and effective premises support across the corporate estate, ensuring the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained to required standards. The post-holder will observe safe working practices, use initiative to prioritise tasks, and assist with keeping accurate records linked to Health and Safety legislation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of premises (internal and external) during a shift and monitor CCTV surveillance equipment where installed, reporting incidents to their Supervisor and Facilities Section in a timely manner.
- Open/close premises and ensure alarm systems are set in accordance with instruction; minimise false alarms and user errors.
- Assist and monitor all visitors to the premises, including contractors, to ensure access is restricted to permitted areas.
- Familiarise yourself with building equipment and plant (e.g., heating systems) to ensure premises are fully operational prior to general occupation.
- Accurately record water temperatures as linked to Legionella Monitoring in the Site Log Books.
- Arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains and clean up spillages as required.
- Ensure gullies, drains, and surrounding areas are kept free from debris and that premises and grounds are litter-free.
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade and in line with the general character of the job as may be reasonably required by the Chief Officer from time to time.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience within the Security Industry or a security-related discipline.
- Proven experience of working in a customer care driven environment.
- Detailed knowledge of the functions carried out within Building Services.
- Basic knowledge of all legislation related to the Security industry.
- Basic knowledge of conflict management and resolution.
- Good understanding of electronic security management systems.
- Basic knowledge of, and familiarity with, building operations systems and plant (e.g., heating systems).
- Good numeracy and literacy skills with the ability to draft concise and accurate reports.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with individuals at all levels.
- Physically able to carry out manual and active labouring duties and to conduct regular foot patrols of premises (internal/external).
- Valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence.
- Ability to work on own initiative and undertake duties in an effective and efficient manner.
- Positive and self-motivated with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in priorities and demands.
- Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.
- Prepared to work unsociable hours on a shift rotation basis (including weekends where applicable).
