The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a motivated and customer‑focused Cultural Venue Assistant to play a key role in delivering high‑quality cultural experiences across our venues. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of our cultural offer, supporting events, performances, and community activities while helping to create a welcoming and professional environment for all. The Cultural Venue Assistant provides essential front‑of‑house, administrative, and operational support to our cultural venues. You will be the first point of contact for visitors, audiences, artists, and clients, ensuring excellent customer service while supporting the smooth delivery of events, room bookings, and private hires. The role also contributes to marketing, social media, and audience engagement initiatives to promote our cultural programme. You will work closely with the Cultural Venues Co‑ordinator, Wider Libraries and Cultural Services colleagues, and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a welcoming, professional front‑of‑house service for visitors, event attendees, and clients
- Handle ticket sales, bookings, enquiries, and box office systems in line with GDPR requirements
- Support venue administration, including contracts, purchase orders, bookings, and record‑keeping
- Assist with the day‑to‑day operation of venues, liaising with facilities, caretakers, and event partners
- Support the delivery of cultural events, performances, workshops, weddings, and private or corporate hires
- Assist with marketing activity, including social media content, newsletters, website updates, and promotions
- Help maintain safe, accessible, and well‑presented public and non‑public spaces
- Support post‑event reporting and audience data analysis to improve engagement and development
About You
You are an organised, approachable, and customer‑focused individual who enjoys working in a lively, public‑facing cultural environment. You take pride in delivering excellent customer service, supporting events and venue operations, and contributing positively to the cultural life of the Vale of Glamorgan. You are comfortable balancing frontline customer interaction with administrative and operational responsibilities. You will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of working in a customer‑facing role, providing a high standard of customer service
- Experience of working in an arts, cultural, events, or venue setting
- Experience of handling cash and using booking or ticketing systems
- Experience of responding to enquiries, managing bookings, and carrying out administrative tasks
- Good working knowledge of IT systems, including Microsoft Office and online booking platforms
- An understanding of health and safety, emergency procedures, and accessibility requirements in a public‑facing environment
- Awareness of GDPR and data protection requirements when handling customer information
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm and professional in busy situations
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- The ability to support events and venue operations, including room set‑ups, event logistics, and liaison with organisers
- An interest in marketing, audience engagement, and the use of social media and digital platforms to promote events
- A proactive and positive approach to work, with a commitment to inclusive practice, equal opportunities, and safeguarding
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths, with a willingness to undertake relevant training
- A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends
- The ability to travel between venues across the Vale of Glamorgan, with a willingness to speak or learn Welsh being desirable
