About us
The Social Care Information Team is passionate about making information easy to find, easy to understand, and accessible to everyone who needs it. We support families, individuals, professionals, and communities to navigate the wide range of services available across the Vale of Glamorgan.
Role overview
This role will support our Family Information Service (FIS) - the Vale’s first point of contact for information on childcare, activities, and services for children, young people, and families. Delivered through the Vale Family Compass, the service helps ensure people can quickly access the support and information they need.
We are a friendly, supportive team that values learning, development, and collaboration. Alongside supporting the Family Information Service, you’ll also contribute to improving social care information across the wider Social Services Directorate.
As an apprenticeship opportunity, this role offers the chance to gain valuable workplace experience while completing a recognised qualification and developing skills for a future career in administration, digital services, information management, or customer support.
We embrace the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s core values of being ambitious, open, together, and proud. We are ambitious in our approach, always looking forward and embracing new ways of working to invest in our future. We work together collaboratively, respecting diversity and delivering quality services. Above all, we are proud to serve our communities and to be part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career within a supportive and friendly team while gaining a recognised qualification. As a Social Care Information Apprentice, you’ll develop valuable administration, communication, and digital skills while helping families and professionals’ access important information and support services.
You will complete a relevant qualification alongside your day-to-day role, gaining practical experience and professional development along the way.
In this role, you will support the day-to-day running of the Family Information Service, respond to enquiries from families, carers, professionals, and partner organisations via phone, email, and digital channels.
You’ll maintain and update information on local services using the Dewis Cymru website. You will contact organisations and service providers to review and confirm information accuracy.
You will support The Index for Children and Young People with Disabilities or Additional Needs by processing registrations and reviewing information with families. You’ll assist with creating and updating newsletters, website content, information guides, and digital resources.
In addition, you will develop confidence using a range of digital systems, databases, and communication tools, while providing administrative support that helps the team deliver an efficient and responsive service.
This apprenticeship provides a clear development pathway, with opportunities to build skills and progress into more specialist or higher-level roles in the future.
About you
This role may be for you if you are enthusiastic, organised, and eager to learn. You don’t need extensive experience – we’re interested in your potential, attitude, and willingness to develop.
You should have good communication skills and be comfortable (or willing to become comfortable) using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to manage tasks accurately, maintain confidentiality, and take a flexible approach to work, while being able to work both independently and as part of a team.
An interest in developing skills in administration, customer service, information management, or digital support would be beneficial, along with a commitment to working towards a recognised qualification.
