About Us

Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) are an integrated community team, based in Llanfair unit, Llandough hospital. We work collaboratively with multiple professionals from local authority, health and third sector agencies. Our service offers secondary mental health care for adults aged 65 plus, living with dementia and diagnosed mental ill health. Generally, when the nature of the illness is complex, severe, and unstable. We work closely with the Young Onset Dementia Service and Local Authority community teams.

MHSOP work in collaboration with citizens, families and carers to assess needs and risks. We work within a legal framework, which requires us to uphold the rights of individuals. Each profession adopts a strengths based, outcome focused approach to assessment and interventions. Partnership working is key to achieving personal outcomes, devising care, and support plans.

A priority in MHSOP is to provide an effective efficient service to older people who live in the Vale of Glamorgan. To do this we have to ensure our staff are trained and skilled in the work they undertake. To promote staff wellbeing, our philosophy is to foster a culture where employees are valued, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. We provide regular training and supervision as well as hold a weekly meeting to discuss complex cases in a multidisciplinary arena.

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 10, SCP 36 – 39, £47,181-£50,269 Pro Rata, £24.46 -£26.06 Per Hour

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours

Main Place of Work: Llanfair Unit. Llandough Hospital. Penlan Road. Penarth. CF64 2XX

Description:

  • To work under the direction of the Integrated Team Manager.
  • To manage and supervise the day to day operations and workflow of the Vale team.
  • To provide leadership and professional supervision to team members.
  • To lead and support with developing integrated practice.
  • To support team development around approaches to manage risk resulting from mental ill health.
  • To lead on outcome-focused and strength-based approaches to assessment and care planning.
  • To audit and provide guidance around assessments, Care and Treatment/Care and Support plans.
  • To sign off care packages in accordance with operational policies and budget accountabilities.
  • Prioritise referrals for allocation in accordance with agreed protocols and standards.

About You

You will need:

  • Relevant Social Work qualification and registered with Social Care Wales.
  • A comprehensive understanding of mental ill health and experience of working with older adults.
  • Excellent self and time management skills.
  • Ability to chair meetings.
  • Practice experience in management and supervision.
  • A sound understanding of the legal frameworks surrounding mental health.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working in partnership with other Agencies.
  • Ability to support team members to reach their full potential.
  • A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding adults at risk.
  • An approachable, reflective approach.
  • High level of personal motivation and ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales.
  • Organisational, leadership and negotiation skills.
  • A willingness to learn and support the development of the service.
