St Cyres Comprehensive School is a mainstream school with a fully integrated Physical and Medical Resource Base. Pupils supported through the resource base are educated within their age-related mainstream classes and are fully included in all aspects of school life wherever possible. The Higher Level Teaching Assistant works flexibly across the school day to support pupils with Physical and Medical needs within mainstream classrooms, shared learning spaces and wider school activities, promoting inclusion, independence, safety and progress.
About The Role
- Pay details: Level 4 (SCP 14-19) + Special School Allowance £30,515 - £33,119 pro rata
- Day/ Hours per week: 32.5 hours – 5 days, 39 weeks per year

Description: To provide support for Physical and Medical pupils across all schools within the Vale of Glamorgan. Ensuring they have access to the curriculum and acting as a practical assistant during lessons as required. You will also need to provide support to all teachers and specialists involved.
About You
- Previous and recent experience working in primary or secondary schools.
- Experience of supporting children and young people with physical difficulties, complex medical needs and/or long-term health conditions.
- Previous experience of implementing learning strategies, such as therapy programmes or personalised learning activities under professional guidance.
- Previous experience of assisting with planning, monitoring and evaluation of pupils' work.
- Previous experience of working with a range of IT software programmes, communication aids and/or adapting equipment to support access to learning.
- Strong understanding of Additional Learning Needs, in particular to physical disabilities, medical conditions, sensory needs and how these impact learning and participation.
- Able to demonstrate effective working ways with pupils and promote an inclusive classroom practice.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety and manual handling requirements.
- Knowledge of different key stage programmes.
- Working knowledge of safeguarding arrangements in a school environment.
- Able to communicate and liaise with school staff, parents and local authority staff.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Strong ability to follow medical instructions.
