The Communities for Work Plus (CfW+) team forms part of the Vale Employability team, which sits within the Learning and Skills Directorate within the Vale of Glamorgan Council and part of the Strategy, Community Learning and Resources service. The programme is funded by the Welsh Government and supports people who are unemployed or economically inactive to overcome barriers, access opportunities and achieve sustainable employment.
As part of the wider Vale Employability provision, we work in partnership with employers, education providers, training organisations and support agencies to help residents develop their skills, confidence and employability. Our approach is centred on providing person‑centred, holistic support to individuals facing a range of barriers to work, contributing to the Welsh Government's Tackling Poverty agenda.

About The Role
Pay Details: Grade 6 SCP 14 - 19 £30,515 - £33,119
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: Monday – Friday – 37 hours per week
Main Place of Work: Barry (Palmerston Education Centre and The Pod)
Temporary Reason: Fixed‑term post due to Welsh Government funding
Description
The Communities for Work Plus Employment Mentor will provide tailored employability support, mentoring and guidance to unemployed and economically inactive individuals across the Vale of Glamorgan. Managing a caseload of participants, the postholder will develop and review individual action plans, identify and help overcome barriers to employment, and support individuals to access training, education and sustainable work opportunities.
The role involves working collaboratively with internal teams, employers and partner organisations to deliver high quality, person‑centred support that contributes to the Welsh Government's Tackling Poverty agenda. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records, monitor participant progress and support the effective delivery and ongoing development of the Communities for Work Plus programme.
About You
We are seeking someone who is passionate about improving employment outcomes and supporting individuals facing challenges in accessing work.
You will have experience of working within an employment, employability, mentoring, advice or support setting and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by unemployed and economically inactive individuals.
You will be able to build positive relationships, communicate effectively and manage a varied workload while maintaining accurate records and achieving programme targets.
Essential
- Experience of working in an employment‑related field.
- Experience of providing support and mentoring to individuals.
- Experience of working with people facing barriers to employment and poverty.
- Experience of developing and implementing action plans.
- Experience of partnership and multi‑agency working.
- Knowledge of employment, welfare and benefit issues.
- Knowledge of support services available through statutory and voluntary organisations.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Good organisational, IT, monitoring and reporting skills.
- Graduate level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel throughout the Vale of Glamorgan as required.
Desirable
- Experience of community development work.
- Knowledge of local regeneration and employability programmes.
- Relevant employability or community engagement qualifications/training.
