How you will Energise Our Team

The Settlement Specialist is responsible for the accurate, timely and efficient settlement of energy market transactions and related financial processes. The role involves validating trading and operational data, managing settlement calculations, investigating discrepancies, resolving exceptions and ensuring that financial and regulatory obligations are met.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Working closely with Commercial, Finance, Operations and external market participants to ensure energy transactions are accurately captured, settled, reconciled and reflected in financial systems

• Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual settlement activities across relevant energy markets, ensuring accurate and timely processing

• Investigating and resolving settlement discrepancies, rejected transactions, exceptions and data quality issues, escalating material financial or operational risks where appropriate

• Liaising with Elexon, market operators, network companies, suppliers, generators, brokers, partners and other counterparties to manage settlement performance and resolve issues

• Maintaining a strong understanding of electricity and/or gas settlement arrangements, market rules, contractual obligations and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance

• Analysing large datasets, including energy volumes, meter readings, market charges and imbalance costs, using spreadsheets, databases and settlement systems to perform calculations and reconciliations

• Identifying opportunities to improve data quality, strengthen controls, automate manual processes and reduce errors, while supporting customer onboarding, system testing and the implementation of new settlement processes

• Developing and maintaining settlement reports, dashboards and accurate audit trails, supporting financial reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, audits, and the ongoing review of settlement procedures and controls

The Spark we're Looking For

• Experience in settlement, billing, operations or a data-driven analytical role, ideally within the energy industry

• Strong reconciliation and data investigation skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret large datasets and resolve discrepancies or exceptions

• Knowledge of UK electricity and/or gas settlement arrangements, with an understanding of Elexon processes and market performance obligations (Desirable)

• Experience working with industry agents, market participants or external partners, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships (Desirable)

• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools, with experience developing reports, dashboards or management information

• A good understanding of financial controls and reporting processes, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• A proactive, collaborative and continuous improvement mindset, with experience supporting process automation, system changes or industry initiatives (Desirable)
