Reinsurance & Direct Pricing Actuary / Senior Actuarial Analyst

Valayo is working with an international insurer on two newly created Pricing opportunities within a growing London Market team.

One of the biggest attractions of these roles is the breadth of exposure.

Rather than specialising in either direct insurance or reinsurance, you'll work across both throughout the year, gaining experience that's difficult to find elsewhere in the London Market.

Alongside this, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of Specialty classes London Market business, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their pricing experience and become a genuinely well-rounded pricing actuary.

The work itself combines case pricing, pricing model development, portfolio analytics and business planning, with regular interaction with experienced underwriters.

They're looking for someone who enjoys understanding the commercial side of pricing and helping to influence underwriting decisions, rather than simply producing models behind the scenes.

You'll also join the business at an exciting time.

The team is growing, with multiple hires planned as the portfolio continues to expand.

At the same time, they're investing heavily in their pricing capability, with projects spanning pricing technology, new modelling approaches, data improvements and the development of new pricing tools.

This is a role where you'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, help shape how the team works and play an active part in building the next generation of pricing capability.

One of the biggest advantages is the level of ownership and exposure.

As part of a relatively small, collaborative pricing team, you'll be involved throughout the pricing lifecycle, work closely with a wide range of underwriters and gain exposure across multiple portfolios rather than being confined to a single area of the business.

They're particularly interested in candidates who are...

  • Senior Actuarial Analyst or Nearly/Newly Qualified Actuary
  • Around 3+ years' pricing experience
  • London Market pricing experience preferred (large commercial lines also considered)
  • Experience in case pricing, pricing model development, or ideally a combination of both
  • Comfortable working closely with underwriters and wider business stakeholders
  • Curious, commercially minded and interested in improving pricing processes rather than simply maintaining existing models
  • Experience within Aviation, Marine, Energy, Casualty, Political Violence & Terror or other Specialty classes would be advantageous, although not essential

The business offers a strong overall package including competitive bonus, flexible hybrid working and excellent long-term career progression within a growing pricing function.
